Some dogs are chosen within days of arriving. Others wait for months, sometimes longer, not because there is anything wrong with them, but because the right person has not yet found them. Adopters Robert and Lindsay welcomed Lurcher LuLu through Greyhounds in Need after their dog Twiggy grew lonely following the loss of her companion Harley. LuLu, rescued from Spain, has settled in well and formed a close bond with Twiggy.
Tarsha, a Dachshund rescued from China's Dog Meat Trade with a broken spine, underwent spinal surgery in Beijing despite being weeks past the usual treatment window. The Dog Meat Trade Charity says supporters funded her care, and she is now recovering with wheels for mobility.
Labrador Lifeline Trust is caring for six puppies, the "Crane Puppy Pack," nearly euthanised before being diagnosed with cerebellar malformation, a neurological condition affecting movement. The trust is now seeking sponsors and foster homes to fund their lifelong care.
Lennoxtown woman Rosie Devlin, who has multiple sclerosis, says her three dogs adopted from the Scottish SPCA help her stay active and manage her symptoms. She and husband Peter credit Bonnie, Moss and Bramble with providing exercise and support.
