Over the past year, a number of UK microchip databases have been acquired or merged into other providers. When that happens, animal records have to move from the old system to the new one, and that process hasn’t always gone cleanly.

Some owners and rescues have found chips showing as unregistered after a migration, despite being registered before it. Others have found that updating basic details now comes with costs that weren't part of the original deal.

‍

If you’re a rescue, it’s worth knowing you can register or re-register any animal with Pet Database for free www.petdatabase.com, regardless of chip manufacturer, that’s been our approach from the start.

If you’re an owner who’s been affected by a recent migration, there’s more on what actually happened and what your options are: https://www.petdatabase.com/microchip-provider-changed
