Countless animals worldwide are killed or injured in road accidents every day, a largely unnoticed crisis that World Animal Road Accident Awareness Day was created five years ago to highlight. The awareness day continues to campaign for greater road safety for animals.

Leading animal charities and vet organisations have joined DEFRA in urging owners to microchip their cats as England begins a 100-day countdown to compulsory microchipping. From 10 June, cats over 20 weeks old must be chipped and registered or owners risk a fine.
A survey by national pet charity Blue Cross has found that nearly half of UK pet owners feel they must suffer in silence after losing a pet, with only 52% saying they would feel comfortable seeking support. Of the 2,000 owners surveyed, 81% felt they could not request time off work to grieve, and 67% believed employers should offer support.
New research estimates almost 362 million cats and dogs are homeless across the 20 countries studied, highlighting the global scale of pet homelessness. The project, launched with Mars Petcare, aims to end pet homelessness, says Global President Loïc Moutault.
