Wales lead the way in improving pet welfare – again

Blue Cross has welcomed the Senedd's announcement of an end to greyhound racing in Wales and is urging Westminster and Holyrood to follow suit. The charity says Wales has repeatedly led the way on animal welfare, having already banned shock collars and snares.

Share your fabulous feline's best pose and raise money for needy cats

Cats Protection Taunton & Minehead is running an online 'cat show' fundraiser inviting cat owners to share photos of their pets across daily themed categories in late February and early March. Proceeds will support unwanted, stray and abandoned cats in the charity's care, including six-year-old Bodhi, who is currently looking for a home.

Could pets be the cure to the UK's loneliness epidemic?

A survey of 2,000 pet owners by Agria Pet Insurance found that more than two in five people turn to their pets to ease feelings of loneliness, with Yorkshire residents the most likely to do so. Most respondents said they would consider adopting an older pet for companionship in later life.

Expert reveals the furniture most at risk of pet damage at home

Dog expert Michael Nelson of Kennel Store says 77% of dog owners have reported furniture damage totalling over £348 million, with chewed wooden legs and soiled carpets among the most common problems. He recommends sealants, chew-friendly toys and durable materials to help pup-proof the home.

Young cat with air gun pellet lodged in chin thrives in new home

Nora, a three-year-old cat taken in by Cats Protection Dorset Cat Centre, was found to have an air gun pellet lodged in her chin during treatment for a separate ulcer. She has since recovered and settled into a new home in Bournemouth.

Appeal after skinny dachshund left at RSPCA cattery

The RSPCA is appealing for information after an underweight dachshund named Truffle was left by two men at its Ashford Garden Cattery in Kent, unable to stand. The seven-year-old, microchipped dog is now recovering well in emergency boarding while investigations continue.
